Victoria Helen Stone, Bald-Faced Liar

Elizabeth May, the liar of the book's title, is a former nurse who now works from home in sunny Santa Cruz, a city she's come to love so much that she almost feels like putting down roots. But she doesn't stay anywhere long, and she doesn't let people get to know the real her for ... reasons. She's not unfriendly, just private. Fortunately, the name "Elizabeth" has a slew of nicknames, and she uses different ones and different backstories with her various acquaintances as she slips through life rootless. But in this novel, told in the first person, her past catches up to her—or so she thinks, at least: readers can't be completely sure until things come to a head whether she's a reliable narrator. The book held my interest to the end and served as a fun distraction read, which is exactly what I needed.
