Tess Gerritsen, The Spy Coast

About: A foursome of retired spies living in the same small town in Maine get back into action when one of them is targeted.
Verdict: The story focuses on Maggie Bird and the operation 15 years ago that ended her career—and her happiness—and that is making her a target now. So we see her in two phases of life, and in each she's a compelling, competent character. I liked her and the interaction among the spies. There's also a strong female acting police chief. Given the likability of the cast, it doesn't surprise me that this is the first of a three-book (so far) series.
