Robert Silverberg, Hawksbill Station

About: Sci-fi novel, expanded from a novella of the same name, about life in a penal colony established a billion years in the past to which an authoritarian US government transports political dissidents.

Verdict: Cool hook, likable protagonist, good writing, and a poignant ending. The only negative was the dull-to-me political sections, set in the modern world, that were added when the story was lengthened.
